Export Opera bookmarks to an HTML file

Updated

To export bookmarks from Opera, open the bookmarks manager, click the import/export button at the bottom of the left side panel, and choose to export. Opera saves your bookmarks as an HTML file that any browser can import. These steps follow Opera Help, checked in October 2026.

How to export bookmarks from Opera

  1. Open the bookmarks manager. Any of these works:
    • Click the Bookmarks icon (a heart) in the sidebar.
    • On Windows or Linux, click the Opera menu button in the top-left corner, then Bookmarks > Bookmarks.
    • On a Mac, click Bookmarks in the menu bar, then Bookmarks.
    • Right-click the bookmarks bar and choose Bookmarks.
    • Type opera://bookmarks in the address bar.
  2. At the bottom of the left side panel, click the import/export button and choose Export bookmarks.
  3. Choose where to save the HTML file and click Save.

Open your export in Reading Rewind

Drop the file onto the free Bookmark Explorer, or click Browse Files and pick it. The explorer reads the file in your browser and never uploads it. You can browse your folders, search every title and link, and preview pages, all without an account.

To keep these bookmarks next to your reading list, create a free Reading Rewind account, open Bookmarks, and choose Import Bookmarks File from the ⋯ menu at the top of the list. The file is added as its own source, named after it, such as "HTML Import (bookmarks.html)", next to the rest of your library. Importing a file with the same name again replaces only that source.

Merging exports from several browsers? Remove duplicate bookmarks combines them into one clean file. Got years of old links? The dead link checker finds sites that no longer respond.

FAQ

Can I get deleted bookmarks back before I export?

Yes, if Opera still has them. Deleted bookmarks go to Trash (Bin on a Mac) in the left side panel of the bookmarks manager. Hover over a bookmark and click Undo delete, then export.

Is Opera sync a backup?

Not really. Signing in with an Opera account keeps your bookmarks, tabs, passwords and history the same on all your devices (Settings > Synchronization). An export is different: it's a file you keep, open anywhere, and import whenever you like.

Where is the import/export button on a Mac?

In the same place as on Windows and Linux: at the bottom of the left side panel in the bookmarks manager. Only the way you open the manager differs. On a Mac, use Bookmarks in the menu bar.
