Export Edge favorites (bookmarks) to an HTML file

Updated

Microsoft Edge calls bookmarks "favorites". To export them, select Settings and more (…) > Favorites, then More options (…) > Export favorites, and save the file. Edge writes a standard bookmarks HTML file that any browser can import. These steps follow Microsoft's Edge guide to backing up favorites, checked in October 2026.

How to export favorites from Edge

  1. In Edge, select Settings and more (…) in the top-right corner.
  2. Select Favorites. On Windows you can press Ctrl+Shift+O instead. You can also type edge://favorites in the address bar.
  3. Select More options (…) above your list of favorites.
  4. Select Export favorites.
  5. Choose a location, give the file a name you'll remember, and select Save.

Microsoft lists Ctrl+Shift+O ("Open Favorites") as a Windows shortcut only, in its Edge keyboard shortcuts. On a Mac, use the menu or edge://favorites.

The file keeps your folder structure, with Favorites bar and Other favorites as folders.

Open your export in Reading Rewind

Drop the file onto the free Bookmark Explorer, or click Browse Files and pick it. The explorer reads the file in your browser and never uploads it. You can browse your folders, search every title and link, and preview pages, all without an account.

To keep these favorites next to your reading list, create a free Reading Rewind account, open Bookmarks, and choose Import Bookmarks File from the ⋯ menu at the top of the list. The file is added as its own source, named after it, such as "HTML Import (bookmarks.html)", next to the rest of your library. Importing a file with the same name again replaces only that source.

Merging exports from several browsers? Remove duplicate bookmarks combines them into one clean file. Got years of old links? The dead link checker finds sites that no longer respond.

FAQ

Are favorites and bookmarks the same thing?

Yes. Edge calls them favorites, while Chrome, Firefox and Safari call them bookmarks. The exported file uses the same standard bookmarks format, so other browsers and the Bookmark Explorer read it like any bookmarks file.

Where did my Edge Collections go?

Microsoft retired Collections. They're no longer available from Edge version 149, released on 4 June 2026, and Edge converts your collections into folders under Favorites. Only saved web pages move across. Images and notes don't. Because those pages are now favorites, they're included when you export favorites. Source: Microsoft Support.

Does the export include favorites from my other devices?

It includes every favorite this copy of Edge shows. If you sign in and sync favorites with your Microsoft account, that covers favorites you added on your other devices too.
