Export Chrome bookmarks to an HTML file

Updated

To export bookmarks from Chrome on a computer, open the Bookmark manager (More ⋮ > Bookmarks and lists > Bookmark manager), click the More menu ⋮ inside the manager, and choose Export bookmarks. Chrome saves every bookmark and folder in one HTML file that any browser can import. These steps match Google Chrome Help, checked in October 2026.

How to export bookmarks from Chrome

  1. Open Chrome on your computer.
  2. At the top right, click More (⋮) > Bookmarks and lists > Bookmark manager. Shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+O on Windows and Linux, or ⌘+Option+B on a Mac. You can also type chrome://bookmarks in the address bar.
  3. In the Bookmark manager, click More (⋮) at the top right of the page. This is the menu inside the manager, not the one in Chrome's toolbar.
  4. Choose Export bookmarks.
  5. Pick a folder, keep or change the file name, and click Save.

The keyboard shortcuts come from Chrome's list of shortcuts.

What's in the file

The export is a standard bookmarks HTML file with your folder structure intact. Bookmarks bar and Other bookmarks become top-level folders. If Chrome syncs with your Google Account, bookmarks saved on your phone come along in Mobile bookmarks.

Open your export in Reading Rewind

Drop the file onto the free Bookmark Explorer, or click Browse Files and pick it. The explorer reads the file in your browser and never uploads it. You can browse your folders, search every title and link, and preview pages, all without an account.

To keep these bookmarks next to your reading list, create a free Reading Rewind account, open Bookmarks, and choose Import Bookmarks File from the ⋯ menu at the top of the list. The file is added as its own source, named after it, such as "HTML Import (bookmarks.html)", next to the rest of your library. Importing a file with the same name again replaces only that source.

Would you rather keep Chrome and Reading Rewind in step? Skip the file and install the Chrome extension. It syncs your Chrome bookmarks automatically and adds a one-click save button.

Merging exports from several browsers? Remove duplicate bookmarks combines them into one clean file. Got years of old links? The dead link checker finds sites that no longer respond.

FAQ

Can I export Chrome bookmarks from my phone?

Google's export steps only cover Chrome on a computer. If Chrome on your phone syncs with your Google Account, its bookmarks also appear on your computer under Mobile bookmarks, so export from there.

Does the export include my Reading list?

No. Chrome keeps the Reading list (More > Bookmarks and lists > Reading list) separate from bookmarks, and the export only contains bookmarks. Bookmark any reading-list pages you want to keep before you export.

I have several Chrome profiles. Which bookmarks get exported?

Only those in the profile you're using. Each Chrome profile has its own bookmarks, so switch to each profile and export it separately.
